The Chaplet for the Dead is a 45 bead chaplet which begins with the Crucifix and five introductory beads. The forty beads are in memory of the forty hours which Our Lord is thought to have spent in Limbo.
Praying the Chaplet for the Dead
This devotion begins and ends with the De Profundis (Psalm 130).
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD.
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.
If You, LORD, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait,
And in His word do I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen for the morning;
Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the LORD;
For with the LORD there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
On each large bead:
Eternal rest give to them, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them, May they rest in peace. Amen
O my God, I believe in You because You are truth itself; I hope in You because you are infinitely merciful; I love you with my whole heart and above all things because you are infinitely perfect; and I love my neighbor as myself for the love of You. I am truly sorry for having sinned because You are infinitely good and sin displeases You. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, never more to offend You.
Amen.
On each small bead:
"Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation."
Conclude each decade with:
"Eternal Rest Grant unto (him/her)
and let the perpetual light shine upon (him/her).
May (he/she) rest in peace."
Conclude the chaplet:
V. Eternal rest grant unto (him/her), O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon (him/her).
V. May (he/she) rest in peace.
R. Amen.
V. May (his/her) soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
R. Amen.
May the love of God
and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ
bless us and console us
and gently wipe every tear from our eyes.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
R. Amen.
How do we comfort someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one? We can’t take their pain. We can’t fill the void. Where is the comfort we want, so desperately, to give?
Recently, we found ourselves in this place and sought to find a way to comfort a grieving friend. We could think of nothing more comforting than prayer. As we researched prayers and chaplets for the dead, there seemed to be something missing. While they were prayer for the soul of the departed, there was no prayer included to comfort the grieving. We then, came upon this chaplet which concludes with these words, ”May the love of God
and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ bless us and console us and gently wipe every tear from our eyes.”
This chaplet is dedicated to the souls of the departed and to the loved ones left here, on earth, until they are reunited in Heaven.
In this chaplet, we’ve chosen a brilliant, yet soothing, machine cut crystal with a blush of hibiscus. Spaced with German crystal, each decade is separated by a large strawberry quartz bead which is flanked by Swarovski roundels. Completed in sterling with a Miraculous Medal and ornate crucifix, this limited edition chaplet measures 22”.
